What are the Top 10 Bad Habits You Need to Stop?

Updated: Apr 12, 2020

From improving your health with simple daily routines, to realizing that the poor choices we make each day will take years off our lives, here’s our list of top bad habits to stop immediately:

Taking your life and health for granted. Both will be gone some day. But the more you appreciate both, the longer and healthier you’ll be.

Eating unhealthy foods. Of the 56.9 million deaths worldwide in 2016, more than half (54%) were due to the top 10 causes, with Ischaemic heart disease and stroke are the world's biggest killers.

Eating too much sugar and processed foods. Ok so we mentioned eating unhealthy above, but I think it’s important to call these two out. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the maximum amount of added sugars you should eat in a day are Men: 37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons, Women: 25 grams or 6 teaspoons.

Sitting all day without taking regular breaks to walk. Sitting is the new smoking. Get a doctors note requesting a standing desk. It will add years to your life.

Not exercising daily. This is as simple as a 30 minute walk at lunch if you don’t have time for anything else. Or taking the stairs instead of elevator. Every steps counts.

Not following a routine every day. From the time you wake, to the time you go to bed. Setting up healthy routines reduces the chance of making bad decisions. i.e. Going to bed at 9pm to read 25 pages nightly vs deciding to watch a movie and eat a bag of chips.

Taking the people you care about most for granted. Be kind to those you love most. They won’t be around as long as you think. Trust me on that one.

Forgetting to wash your hands regularly. And stop touching your face. So many sick days could be prevented by remembering this rule.

Eating and drinking after 8pm. This one sounds easy, but trust me it’s my biggest problem. Snacking late is incredibly bad for you. It will impact your sleep and add inches to your waistline.

Watching too much TV can bring out the worst in us. This mindless activity is as Laurie Brown says the lowest form of experience. It leads to a mushy brain, late night snacking, and a bad nights sleep if it’s done late at night.
